Packing List

In 5-Gallon Bucket with lid - you furnish the bucket.  This is your luggage and your chair so you might want to pad the lid.

  • Mess kit OR metal pie plate, tin cup, fork and spoon 

  • Flashlight, fresh batteries

  • Washcloth, small hand towel, bar of soap 

  • Comb or brush

  • Deodorant

  • Toothbrush and toothpaste 

  • Band-aids and moleskin

  • Chapstick with sunscreen

  • Sunscreen, high SPF

  • Tick & Insect repellent 

  • Vaseline, BodyGlide or other anti-chafing product

  • Small bottle hand sanitizer 

  • A small empty garbage bag for wet/dirty clothes 

  • Prescription medications (inhalers, etc.)

  • Prescription eyeglasses (contact lens wearers should bring spare eye glasses.) 

  • Leather or cotton gloves for pulling carts and other work

  • Personal scriptures (older set or paperback)

  • Personal Journal (if desired)

  • Pen for writing 

  • 2-3 Heavy duty trash bags

  • Optional: sunglasses, wet wipes, pocket knife, harmonica or other small instrument, small mesh bag for washing mess kit, hand sanitizer, mist bottle or spray bottle to stay cool.

 

Clothing - General (spray Permethrin on all clothing and shoes at least 24 hours before trek to prevent ticks.  Permethrin can be purchased at most sporting goods stores.  Follow directions on bottle)

  • 2 pairs of shoes for hiking (Sturdy running or tennis shoes will work best.  Hiking books tend to be heavy, 

  • inflexible and are likely to rub you wrong which means foot pain and blisters) 

  • Old tennis shoes or water shoes for river crossing (no flip‐flops) and a plastic bag to put them in 

  • Optional – flip flops to wear only around tent

  • 4-5 pairs of sturdy socks with optional liners (wool blend, acrylic or polypropylene preferred)

  • 2 sets of underclothing

  • Sleeping clothes – pajamas or sweats. 

  • Raincoat or poncho

  • Jacket/hooded sweatshirt

 

  • 2 blouses, long‐sleeved, loose fitting, cotton blends

  • 2 skirts, “boot length” (mid‐calf, not dragging the ground)

  • -OR- 2 dresses with modest neckline, “boot‐length”

  • 2-3 pairs of knee-length bloomers (can be made out of old pajama bottoms or hospital pants)

  • Apron (optional but very functional)

  • 1 bonnet or wide sunhat with strap (the wind will blow hats away!)

  • Feminine hygiene supplies

 

Clothing - Women

Clothing - Men

  • 2 shirts, button type with collars, long sleeves (no t‐shirts or polo shirts, no words or logos)

  • 2 pair long pants, lightweight (no jeans)

  • Wide brimmed hat to shade ears from sun (no baseball caps)

  • Vest, suspenders (optional)

Items NOT allowed

  • cell phones, tablets or any type of electronics

  • Curling irons or blow dryers

  • make-up

  • baseball caps

  • new shoes
